Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are some things you can check yourself prior to calling Boehmers/Cronin Emery Home Services by Enercare.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Boehmers/Cronin Emery Home Services by Enercare a call at 519-804-1617 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
