Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Not much is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself prior to calling Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts a call at 519-804-1617 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
