What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts in Kitchener always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts that our experts are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)

  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
