Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioner 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC service technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your A/C to clear away branches and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the unit and prune back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Also, a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A seasonal air conditioner tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
