Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your A/C system constantly to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to visit your home and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your A/C to clear away branches and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the system and prune back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal A/C system service. Remember, a clogged filter could even damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
