Common Kitchener AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We previously told you about several of the most common air conditioning problems Kitchener faces, but today we are here to tell you about some typical air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The air conditioning system is on but not blowing cool air.

If your air conditioning system is running but not really cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is needed to make sure the air coming out of your AC is really cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is usually an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

An easy way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the large one is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are likely good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.

If you’re not convinced or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts and we’ll come out and confirm your refrigerant levels and discover why your system is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are several reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One could be that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is blocked. If you can verify these things, you may be able to discover the trouble; but, if not, give Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts a call and we can look into what has stopped your condenser fan from turning and walk you through your options to get your air conditioner problem corrected.

Your A/C is not providing sufficient air cooling.

The first step is to try dropping the temperature on your thermostat. It seems absurd but sometimes our busy lives cause us to overlook the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause serious cooling problems. Another issue that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are designed. Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts is happy to come out and complete an analysis to verify if the size of your system is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off constantly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of multiple things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the system is cleaned and all blockages moved elsewhere, you may be back to a regular running AC. Remember that humidity also plays a role so if your house cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work overtime to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever typical or atypical AC trouble you run into, Boehmers/Cronin Emery Service Experts is here for you all day, everyday. We are available to you so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable lickety-split.
